A video library for Mac that reads your footage — what’s said, what’s on screen, who’s in it and where it was shot — so you can search it the way you remember it.

Import them and choose where they should live: your Mac, a connected external drive or iCloud Drive. Voogle moves them into its library folder, then transcribes, captions and groups faces. Each import becomes a session you can come back to.

Yes, in two small ways. When you import a video, Voogle moves it into your Voogle library folder (~/Movies/Voogle by default, or a Voogle folder on an external drive or iCloud Drive). The file name stays the same, with a number added only if that name is taken. Voogle also writes a small ID tag into the file’s metadata so it can recognize the file later. Picture and sound are untouched and nothing is re-encoded. Before anything moves, Voogle shows you what will move and checks there is enough space.

Not permanently. Your video files stay on your Mac, your drive or your iCloud Drive. To make transcripts and scene captions, Voogle sends the audio track and low-resolution stills (640 px, one every 2 seconds) to Google’s Gemini API for processing. Nothing is stored or kept afterwards. Voogle uses Gemini’s paid tier, where Google doesn’t use your data to train its models, and we only choose models that don’t train on your data. Face grouping, image search, text search and your library database all run on your Mac.

MP4, MOV and M4V files that macOS can play, such as H.264, HEVC and ProRes. MKV, AVI, MXF and camera RAW formats like BRAW and R3D aren’t supported. Convert those to MOV or MP4 first.

Nothing is deleted. Voogle records each import step as it finishes, so a file caught mid-move is never lost. Videos on the unplugged drive are hidden from your library and search until you plug it back in, and processing stops for them. Reconnect the drive and press Retry to continue. Voogle doesn’t retry on its own.

It works best on clear, front-facing faces. Voogle skips faces that are small (under 60 px), blurry or turned away, so people who only appear in the background may not be grouped. Lookalikes can end up in one group, and one person can split into two groups across very different lighting or ages. You can rename people and fix groups by hand, and Voogle won’t redo faces in a video you’ve corrected. Face detection and grouping run entirely on your Mac.

Yes. Collect clips on the Shelf, then drag them into Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve or any app that accepts dropped files. Voogle hands over the full original file. Exporting only the matching section as a trimmed clip isn’t available.

Yes. Each time you import, you choose where the videos go: your Mac, a connected external drive or iCloud Drive. You can move videos between them later. Your library database always stays on your Mac, so one search covers every connected location. Videos on a disconnected drive, and iCloud files not downloaded to this Mac, are hidden until they’re available again.

No. Voogle is a Mac app and needs macOS 15 or later. It relies on Apple frameworks for playback, face detection and on-device search.

Pricing isn’t final. The plan is a subscription with a monthly allowance of processing hours that resets each cycle.

What’s on screen (“city at night”), what’s said (any words in the transcript) and who’s in it. You can also search with a photo to find clips that look like it, and browse clips on a map by where they were shot. Text results open at the matching moment.

Yes. You can edit transcript and caption lines, with Undo. Voogle then skips that video when reprocessing so your edits aren’t overwritten. People work the same way: once you correct the people in a video, Voogle stops regrouping faces in it and keeps updating everything else.

From the GPS data your camera or phone saved in the file. If a clip has none, or it’s wrong, you can set or correct the spot on the map.

You get two options. Delete video moves the file to the macOS Trash and removes it from Voogle. Delete metadata keeps the file and removes only Voogle’s data for it (transcript, captions, faces), which takes it out of your library.
